PM Hun Manet and First Lady Bring Joy and Opportunities to Stung Meanchey Families

Phnom Penh: On the morning of October 17, 2024, Prime Minister Hun Manet and First Lady Dr. Pich Chanmony Hun Manet visited the Cambodian Children's Fund (CCF) and the NGO Pour un Sourire d'Enfant (PSE), engaging with nearly 1,000 children at Yos Kindergarten in Russey Village, Sangkat Stung Meanchey, Khan Meanchey, Phnom Penh.


During this warm and unexpected visit, Prime Minister Hun Manet engaged in lively conversations with the grandparents and students, promising to organize a trip for the grandparents to visit Phnom Kulen in Siem Reap Province soon. He expressed his gratitude to Mr. Scott Nixon, President of CCF, and Ms. Marie Fran Deferald, Managing Director of PSE, for their significant contributions to improving the lives of those in impoverished communities. These efforts particularly emphasize education, enabling children to progress from primary school to higher education, with opportunities for scholarships to study abroad.


The Prime Minister declared the provision of scholarships for students from both organizations to attend universities in Cambodia, as well as opportunities for scholarships in China.

Mr. Scott Nixon, President of CCF, expressed his appreciation for the continued support from the Prime Minister and First Lady Dr. Pich Chanmony over the past decade. He shared insights on the organization's achievements over the last 20 years within the Stung Meanchey community, highlighting its impact on improving the livelihoods of tens of thousands of residents through community support, healthcare, and educational programs. Currently, approximately 1,800 students are attending university, with an additional 185 in nursery programs and 140 in kindergarten.


The grandparents and students expressed their excitement and gratitude for the visit, appreciating the time spent with the Prime Minister and First Lady, as well as the ongoing support from CCF and PSE in their educational journeys and daily lives.


Prime Minister Hun Manet and First Lady Dr. Pich Chanmony provided financial donations and food supplies to the grandparents and students, addressing their essential daily needs and fostering a spirit of solidarity within the community.
